About PRP with Microneedling
PRP with Microneedling
What it is:
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) is concentrated from your own blood and rich in growth factors. A small volume of your blood is drawn from a vein (in the arm or hand most commonly), which is then spun in a centrifuge to separate you blood components enabling me to withdraw the platelet rich plasma (PRP). Combined with microneedling, micro-channels are created to deliver PRP precisely where it stimulates collagen, elastin, and tissue repair. Following a skin consultation, we can pair your treatments with a tailored medical‑grade skincare regimen to enhance and maintain results.
Skin benefits:
- Smoother texture and refined pores
- Softening of fine lines and acne scars
- Improved tone, radiance, and firmness
- Healthier skin barrier over time
Hair benefits:
- PRP to the scalp can energize follicles, reduce shedding, and improve thickness and density
- Best for early to moderate thinning; complements medical therapies
Treatment plan:
- Skin: typically 3–4 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart, then maintenance every 6–12 months
- Hair: depending on whether this is for hair thinning or post hair transplant; typically 3-4 sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart, then maintenance as advised
Downtime:
- 24–72 hours of redness, warmth, and mild swelling; possible pinpoint bleeding or bruising
- Dryness or light flaking for 2–5 days
- Scalp tenderness up to 48 hours
- Most resume normal activities the next day; avoid intense heat, sweating, and makeup on treated skin for 24–48 hours
Risks and side effects:
- Common: temporary redness, swelling, bruising, tightness, itching, dryness, or small petechiae
- Less common: acne flare, cold sore reactivation, prolonged redness, post‑inflammatory hyperpigmentation (higher risk in darker skin tones), infection, or very rare scarring (with excessive depth)
- PRP is autologous, so allergy risk is minimal; reactions to antiseptics or topicals are possible
- Lightheadedness can occur during blood draw
Suitability is assessed at consultation; we’ll also advise when to introduce medical‑grade skincare (e.g., retinoids, vitamin C, pigment modulators, peptides, SPF) to amplify results safely.
